Save Polar Bears from a Seismic Attack in the Arctic Refuge

As the Trump administration advances its plan to sell out the Arctic Refuge to big oil, one oil services company already has a deadly foot in the door. SAExploration Inc. recently applied to conduct seismic testing in the heart of polar bear country — the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. If we can stop them, we can slow down or even stop the oil invasion.

The coastal plain is a wildlife haven, providing vital habitat for polar bears, grizzly bears, arctic foxes, muskoxen, wolves and birds that migrate from all 50 states and six continents. In fact, more than 75 percent of the coastal plain is designated as critical habitat for imperiled polar bears and provides mother bears and cubs their most important onshore denning habitat in the United States.

Act now and tell SAEX to withdraw its bid to conduct seismic testing in the Arctic Refuge.

Dear Executive Leadership Team of SAExploration,

I am writing to urge SAExploration to withdraw its application to conduct seismic testing on the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The Southern Beaufort Sea polar bear population, which dens on the coastal plain, already numbers as few as 900 individuals. Industrializing the coastal plain with seismic activity could disturb denning mother bears, causing them to abandon their maternity dens and leave their cubs to perish. Heavy vehicles could even run over den sites, potentially crushing mother bears and their cubs. This destructive operation could send the species closer to extinction.

Seismic testing would do irrevocable damage to the coastal plain and the wildlife that call it home. Any company that exploits the Arctic Refuge for profit can expect to face severe backlash to its reputation. Please withdraw your application to move forward with seismic testing in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
