The ruling royal family of Qatar is gifting Donald Trump a super-luxury jet described as a "palace in the sky", and worth hundreds of millions of dollars. This is a blindingly obvious violation of the emoluments clause of the Constitution, which forbids such gifts, a naked attempt to curry favor with Trump, and there is no way he should be able to get away with this.
Demand that Trump reverse himself and return this bribe NOW.
The plan calls for Trump to use this plane as Air Force One while president, and then take it with him when he leaves, as a "donation" to the Trump Library fund -- meaning he gets to keep it and use it for the rest of his life.
This is a truly awful idea in so many ways. It violates the Constitution, the optics are terrible (every other country will wonder if they must also send supersized bribes to be treated equally), and it will cost the US government hundreds of millions more to take it apart to scan for surveillance devices, check the integrity of the plane, and upgrade the security to Air Force One standards.
This is not normal, and we should not accept it as such. Trump gets a nearly half-billion dollar gift, the rest of us have to pay a fortune, and the Constitution is once again ripped to pieces by the man who took an oath to defend it.
