As the world's biggest fast food chain and the largest purchaser of eggs in the Canadian food service industry , McDonald's
® could make the biggest difference for thousands of egg-laying hens by serving cage-free eggs.

Designed to produce the highest number of eggs as cheaply as possible, the battery cage is one of the most inhumane ways to keep farm animals. Crammed together with five or even six others in tiny cages, hens aren't able to stand up, stretch their wings, or even lay their eggs in a nest. They live their entire lives in a space no bigger than a sheet of notebook paper.
McDonald's
® restaurants across the United Kingdom and Europe are already serving only cage-free eggs. In the United States, McDonald's
® has stated they aim to use 12 million cage-free eggs this year. Now it's McDonald's
® Canada's turn.
