Bring Clean and Safe Water to Sierra Leone's Mothers and Children

In Lumley, Sierra Leone there is a 7-year-old girl who isn't able to go to school because she spends her days carrying home potentially contaminated water for her family to cook and wash with. Is today the day she will get sick?

In Rutile, Sierra Leone an 18-year-old mother nurses her infant daughter while walking miles with gallons of water on her head. Drinking this water could not only kill her, but her baby as well.

Across Africa, millions of people are faced with no other choice but to use water potentially contaminated with deadly dysentery, cholera, E. coli or Typhoid fever.

Children, young mothers with infants, the sick and elderly, and even otherwise healthy adults, take a risk of severe illness or death every time they take a drink of water. Luckily, all it takes to prevent disease in places like Lumley or Rutile is a community well.

That’s why for nearly 20 years Bread and Water for Africa has been drilling wells throughout Africa. With a source of safe drinking water, children can go to school instead of wasting their lives carrying water and mothers can recuperate from giving birth and devote full attention to their babies.

Together we can save lives. Will you sign the pledge today and show your support for bringing community wells and clean and safe water to Africa’s mothers and children?
