Take Back Your Privacy From the NSA

The NSA is watching us.

From monitoring our phone records to trolling pictures of us off the internet for its terrifying new facial recognition software, the NSA will do anything and everything within its power to maximize its surveillance — even if it means violating the very principles our country was founded upon.

Against this shadowy backdrop, our government is looking less like a democracy and more like something out of George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four. And it's banking on the idea that we'll sit back and watch as it creeps further and further into our lives.

We don't have to accept this, and we won't. Because as much as the NSA would like its reach to be all-pervasive, it isn't — which means as internet users, we really can take action to protect ourselves. We can get informed about internet privacy. We can encrypt our communications. We can call our representatives and demand better from them.

This Thursday, June 5th, human rights organizations, social media platforms, and individual activists alike are coming together to #ResetTheNet. On the anniversary of Edward Snowden's first disclosure, they're starting a movement to make the internet more secure, so that prying eyes can't access our personal communications, no matter how hard they try.

It doesn't matter how tech-savvy you are — everyone has something to contribute. How will you protect your privacy and safeguard the integrity of the internet?
