In 2015, investigative journalist Bruce Livesey produced a documentary about the Koch brothers for Global News, Canada’s largest private TV network. The film focused on the Koch’s vast holdings in Alberta’s tar sands and their campaign to finance the election of a Republican candidate – preferably someone who denies climate science and would overturn President Obama’s veto of the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.
But days before the video was set to air, executives at Global News pulled the documentary from their broadcast schedule and Bruce was abruptly fired. With no outlet for his story and no access to his video footage, he was forced to start from scratch and search elsewhere for a sponsor. That’s when The Real News Network (TRNN) stepped in.
