Obama: Peace Takes More Than Words

President Obama has spoken out about changing the blockade of Gaza in a manner that meets Israel's security concerns and opens up opportunities for Palestinians.

The President told CNN: "You've got to have a situation in which the Palestinians have real opportunity and Israel's neighbors recognize Israel's legitimate security concerns and are committed to peace." He pledged that America would work with the international community to make that happen. "The status quo is not sustainable," he said.

Obama has the right idea. Now it's time to turn those words into action. The blockade neither bolsters Israel's security nor addresses the humanitarian situation in Gaza. It's time to replace it with a new security regime.

Tell Obama to live up to his rhetoric and make good on his plans to achieve peace and security for Israel.
Dear President Obama,

You've spoken about changing the blockade of Gaza in a manner that meets Israel's security concerns and opens up opportunities for Palestinians.

Mechanisms that guarantee Israel's security needs -- like crossing points monitored to prevent arms smuggling by international forces -- are possible. What is needed is the political courage to admit failure and to try a new path.

It is time for you to show leadership on this issue. You must work with the international community - including Egypt, Israel, and the Palestinian Authority - to create a new security regime for Gaza.

Please, live up to your promise to work for peace for Israel.
