In September of 2007 cocaine was taken from one of our 6th grade students here at Perquimans County Middle School. The schools response for not notifying parent was that this was an isolated event and they felt it was not enough to alarm parents over. Just a few months later marijuana was found on one of our 8th graders. Isolated?
Drugs in our schools is not nor has it ever been an isolated event. The more we as a society accept this as a fact, the more our children suffer for it. I challenge the Perquimans County School District and the Perquimans County Law Enforcement to bring Back the D.A.R.E Program in our public schools and to do their part to raise the children's awareness behind the dangers of drugs. The sad fact remains that many of our children go through life with very little awareness as to the harm drugs can cause. The D.A.R.E. Program is desperately needed here in Perquimans County and with your support this program can be reimplemented back into our schools. For the Love of Children sign this petition!!
