Defend Professor Parmar's reappointment and tenure

We, the undersigned, members of the CUNY community and concerned academics, students, and activists, are alarmed by President Kimmich's decision to not recommend Professor Vinit Parmar for reappointment with tenure:

  • We believe that Professor Parmar's academic and teaching record speaks for itself and that any fair review of his work would have resulted in a different conclusion than the one reached by President Kimmich.

  • We firmly believe in the need to continue a strong diverse faculty at CUNY and feel that this will be undermined by removing one of the most talented and dedicated faculty members within the Film Department.

  • We are concerned that the varied and serious procedural problems, bias, sabotage, improper guidance, and unequal treatment have tainted Professor Parmar's tenure application.

As a result, we strongly urge CUNY to convene an independent review of Professor Parmar's application and encourage an unbiased evaluation of his contributions to the CUNY community. We are convinced that any independent review will arrive at a different and positive conclusion.
