End Furlough Fridays in Hawaii's Public School

In order to make up for budget shortfalls, Hawaii's public schools have taken a large hit. The decision was made that over a two year period, students would be furloughed for 34 days. With this decision, Hawaii now has the lowest number of school days in the nation. So far, there have been 13 Furlough Fridays. This means that students are not in school, learning and getting the quality education they deserve.
We feel that this is unacceptable and want the furloughs to end. Save Our Schools Hawaii (SOS) is an organization that started in reaction to the Furlough Friday situation. Over the last several months, SOS has met with almost all parties involved in the negotiations to end furlough fridays. We have not been able to meet with the Governor, however, and that is why on April 7, 2010, we began a sit-in in her office at the capital to wait and ask her to take the lead in ending Furlough Fridays.
We need your support, please sign our petition to show everyone that Furlough Fridays need to end. Let's fix this.
We the undersigned believe that education should be a priority. With that in mind, we feel that furlough fridays in Hawaii's public education system should end.
