Grit the Pavements and prevent injuries

Pavements just do not seem to be gritted in snowy and icy weather. I have taken several bad falls this week and I am fed up with pain and bruising and ruined clothes. It is that much more dangerous for the elderly and infirm. If you can grit the roads, why can you not grit the pavements?
