African American Teen Wrongly Convicted

    To: Elective Officials
We, the undersigned, ask the Attorney General Eric Holder and United States Department of Justice to investigate the Nebraska Judicial System in the case of Gene Shannon, who was convicted in the Douglas County District Court in Omaha, Nebraska on January 26, 2007 for Attempted Assault in the First Degree, which is a felony, on another person in a case where Nebraska failed to name, produce or identify a victim in violation of the U.S. Constitution.
On March 14, 2007, Douglas County District Court Judge Russell Derr sentenced Shannon, who was 16 at the time, as an adult to 11 to 13 years in prison.
We feel that Nebraska violated Shannon Fifth Amendment Right against double jeopardy (which means he can not be tried twice for the same crime) and his Sixth Amendment Right to confrontation (which means he knows the name of the victim and Nebraska has to produce the person so Shannon has the right at trial to cross-examine the alleged victim) under the United States Constitution.

This petition was created by the people of Free Gene Shannon, as an out cry to our elective officials to demonstrate we are concerned about the judicial system and the miscarriage of justice, it can portray, and if this can happen to Gene Shannon in Omaha Nebraska it can happen to anyone in the United States.

Thank you all for taking time to read this petition.

Sincerely,
The Petition Signers
