Help Those with Disabilities in South Carolina

The South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs cannot create and fund urgently needed  programs for disabled South Carolinians because South Carolina is a poor state and does not have the funds to provide such services. To protect and safeguard disabled adults in South Carolina the federal government will have to provide additional federal funding to provide for those who cannot provide for themselves. Disabled individuals ages 21 - 64 that are not eligible for nursing home care with generalized disabilities, but are still dependent and vulnerable are being neglected care in the state of South Carolina. Programs in South Carolina are targeted towards children and seniors only. This leaves a very large gap in crucial care compromising these individuals safety and independence.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden have a comprehensive agenda to empower individuals with disabilities in order to equalize opportunities for all Americans. They support independent, community-based living for Americans with disabilities by enforcing the Community Choice Act, which would allow Americans with significant disabilities the choice of living in their community rather than having to live in a nursing home or other institution, creating a voluntary, budget-neutral national insurance program to help adults who have or develop functional disabilities to remain independent and in their communities, and streamline the Social Security approval process .

Act now and show your support by signing this crucial petition to let President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden know individuals with disabilities residing in the state of South Carolina need federal assistance to prevent the further suffering of themselves and their loved ones.

We the undersigned support the need for federal funding of South Carolina state disability services to provide services for individuals ages 21-64 with general disabilities who are currently being neglected care.

Thank you for taking the time to read our letter and consider our need.
