Tell Chinese Officials That Rape is Rape, Regardless of Condom Use

Wang Zhonggui, a Chinese land and resource official from the town of Ashi, is accused of raping a schoolteacher after a luncheon with other officials - but police never took the case seriously. Wang was arrested and released, and police cited a lack of evidence when he walked out the door.
According to one Chinese police officer, "If he wore a condom, it isn't rape." Another told the victim he would keep the event a secret in order to protect her reputation.
In a nation with 1.3 billion people, only 32,000 sex crimes were reported in 2007. China's dearth of victim resources affects thousands of women each month, and the cavalier attitudes displayed by police officials don't help, either.
Sign our petition to encourage China to take sex crimes seriously and show support for the victim, who says she can no longer speak to the media about her case because of threats from government officials.
