MAKE RADIO STATIONS CLEAN UP THEIR ACT

We, as concerned citizens within this community, recognize that there is an epidemic that is plaguing our community: derogatory music that is being promoted by hip-hop radio stations, deejays, program directors, and the FCC. We believe it is the responsibility of the parents to display a positive example for their children, however it should not be countered by music that speaks in opposition to the basic core values that are the cornerstone of a civilized society.
Therefore, we demand that all program directors and deejays of Hip-Hop and R&B radio stations cease the playing of music that is contrary to the upliftment of all human beings.  We demand to hear more music from local and national artists who are creating music that will restore dignity to Hip-Hop and R&B. We expect that songs promoting sexual promiscuity will be replaced with songs that encourage virtue among women and men, songs glamorizing thug life and materialism should be eliminated from their playlists and replaced with socially conscious music; awakening all music lovers to issues that are of utmost importance for our community.
We the undersigned recognize that there is an epidemic that is plaguing our community: derogatory music that is being promoted by hip-hop radio stations, deejays, program directors, and the FCC. We believe it is the responsibility of the parents to display a positive example for their children, however it should not be countered by music that speaks in opposition to the basic core values that are the cornerstone of a civilized society.

We are a community intertwined, and can only be measured by the least of us, and with the exploitation of some of the worst afflictions in our society being made mainstream, there is an assimilation of the best in our community being lost in the mist of this madness.

While we believe that music is a wonderful form of expression, we also know that our most precious resource, our children, are exposed to the lowest art forms of it on a daily basis. We believe there is a direct link between the disparaging musical content and the increase of drug and alcohol use, teenage pregnancy, misogynistic views, the disrespect of women, the HIV epidemic (especially among black girls between ages 13-19), the high school drop-out rate and the decrease in the amount of love for self and others, literacy among teenage children, and socially conscious youth, just to name a few.

Therefore, we request that all program directors and deejays of Hip-Hop and R&B radio stations cease the playing of music that is contrary to the upliftment of all human beings.  We desire to hear more music from local and national artists who are creating music that will restore dignity to Hip-Hop and R&B. We expect that songs promoting sexual promiscuity will be replaced with songs that encourage virtue among women and men, songs glamorizing thug life and materialism should be eliminated from their playlists and replaced with socially conscious music; awakening all music lovers to issues that are of utmost importance for our community.

We hope that you will see the importance of this movement and realize that our very existence as a people and as a society is at stake. The quality of the minds of our children are up for grabs, and we must work, collectively to create an atmosphere of love, aspiration, and change for ourselves and others.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this letter, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
