New Delhi: In a shocking case of medical negligence at a government hospital in Udaipur a newborn lost her life after doctors allegedly severed her arm during a caesarian section.

The happiness that Ranjeet felt when his baby girl was born two days back was shortlived as moments after her birth, he discovered that she had a large wound on her arm allegedly from the scalpel used by doctors when they performed a caesarian section on his wife.

Ranjeet alleges that the government hospital in Udaipur did not provide her proper treatment and two days later the baby girl died

"Her arm was cut during the operation. She was lying helpless for two days without even a proper dressing," says Ranjeet.

But more shocking is the lackadaisical response of the hospital, despite the loss of an infants's life.

"During delivery the baby's arm got hurt. But it was not serious. In such cases things like this do happen," says Kamlesh Punjabi, dean of the hospital.

There is anger in Udaipur after the baby's death. Succumbing to the demand for action against the hospital, the district administration has ordered a probe.

Udaipur District Collector Anant Kumar told CNN-IBN that appropriate action will be taken against those guilty.

"I took cognizance from the media report. A committee has been formed and they are likely to submit the report either today (Saturday) evening or tomorrow (Sunday). Post-mortem has already taken place," said Kumar.

It's a shocking case of medical negligence and adding to the horror, the hospital even tried to brush under the carpet.
