Re:      The Upbeat and Avocado Festival

Dear Sirs and Madams:

There are two things that come to mind for so many people that frequent our little town the first weekend of October for the California Avocado Festival: The Avocado and The Upbeat.  It is incredibly disheartening that Avocado Festival will come and go this year without what so many feel is second to the avocado, The Upbeat performance.

Twenty-five years ago The Upbeat, a group of young boys began out of a garage and social circles while attending Carpinteria High School.  Now these men, who have families, run local businesses, send their children to schools within Carpinteria Unified School District who are all upstanding citizens of our community, have been shut down by myths and misinformation without merit and or a forum for rebuttal.

As they embark on their 25th year of being together, The Upbeat do not have to plead with those that follow them to stand up for them in objection of the City of Carpinteria and The Avocado Festival committee again not allowing them to play the headlining show at The Avocado Festival.  Whether it be for fear of the mosh pit, ignorance, or just a complete lack of communication and information, I write this on behalf of so many that believe The City of Carpinteria and The Avocado Festival should rearrange the musical event schedule so as to accommodate the band that people specifically come to Avocado Festival to see and have come to expect since the inception of The Avocado Festival.

The Upbeat, like the avocado, is The Avocado Festival.  There are many that will protest this years 2009 festival in disappointment of the decision that has been made with misinformation and lack of heart for what this community and so many others want, that of The Upbeat playing for circles of generations of our community, friends, family, and fans throughout the state.
