There is an enormous amount of children in the United States that are sexually abused, and not just by strangers. Cases fall through the cracks of the legal system every day, and the children are left unprotected.
FACTS:
- 85% of child sexual abuse is committed by relatives, close family, friends, or an adult that the child knows and trusts.
- 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually assaulted before the age of 18.
- Sexual abuse can consist of any action which imposes sexual messages or innuendo on a child, requires a child to be exposed to sexual material, or forces a child to witness sexual behavior. Physical contact is not necessary.
PLEASE VOTE AT CHANGE.ORG FOR THIS IDEA FOR CHANGE - PROTECT, PREVENT, AND EDUCATE
1. TRAIN LEGAL AUTHORITIES: Mandatory Training in Child Sexual Abuse for all legal authorities who are entrusted with the safety of our children - including statistics, psychological and physical signs of sexual abuse, and the knowledge of how to read and understand a Forensic Pediatrician's findings.
2. TRAIN CAREGIVERS AND TEACHERS: Initiate new methods and updated treatment for victims of child sexual abuse by providing the proper training to caregivers and teachers so they may recognize the signs and symptoms of abuse, and teach children how to %u201Ctell%u201D someone they trust and ask for help.
3. INVESTIGATE ALL REPORTS: Mandatory Investigations into any and all child sexual abuse reports, regardless of personal beliefs (or non-beliefs) in the matter of child sexual abuse by a family member.
4. RIGHT TO A TRIAL: Mandatory Trials for child sexual abuse cases regardless of whether or not there are physical findings (there are some cases that span for the course of several years - physical findings may not always appear).
5. HALT VISITATION: No Forced Visitation with child sexual abusers! Even supervised visitation with an abuser is psychologically damaging! (How many rape victims would like to sit in a room with their rapist every week?)
6. REPORT PERPETRATORS ON A TEMPORARY LIST: Report Child Sexual Abusers to localities, even if it is a "Temporary" or "Pending Investigation" list, especially if there are physical findings and damage found by Forensic Pediatricians to be caused by sexual abuse.
7. HALT MOTIONS BY THE ACCUSED PERPETRATOR: Halt any legal motions from being filed by the accused sexual abuser. A potential child sexual abuser should NOT be allowed to file for custody of the children he/she abused! This complicates the investigation, frightens the non-abusive caregiver and the child, prevents therapists from revealing findings to the judge.
8. ALL ADULTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CONTRIBUTING TO THE WELL-BEING AND PROTECTION OF A CHILD: Allow therapists and counselors to provide findings to the court system. IT IS THE LAW - any adult that knows anything about an abuse case is required by law to reveal their findings to the authorities, why should it be any different when it comes from a therapist?
As adults, it is OUR duty to protect our children. It is OUR responsibility to help them grow and become healthy, safe and non-abusive adults. Please support this cause to show you care about your children, their future, and their well-being.
Once again, thank you for voting at Change.org - together, we can take a stand and make things right for our children, their children, and so-on.
