Stop the Development at Mt Pleasant and NC 50
We are requesting the Planning and Zoning Dept and County Commissioners of Johnston County, NC deny the request of petition Cases 08-13 & 08-14.
We are requesting Johnston County, NC officials deny the request to allow development of a gas station, fast food restaurant, and car wash at the intersection of NC Hwy 50 and Mt Pleasant Rd (SR 1533) in Pleasant Grove Township (Case 08-14). Additionally, deny the request to rezone acreage to General Business at the same intersection (Case 08-13).
There are many reason to stop this development.
Environmental Impacts
- To allow this development will be compromising the integrity and health of Milton's Pond, a Nuese River tributary. Currently, clearing of the land has increased flood waters as well as silt deposits in Milton's Pond.
- Wildlife has invaded properties and caused damage to land, houses and cars. Four deer have been hit since the property was cleared.
- Deer, raccoons, beavers, muskrats and hawks have all been misplaced and are now fighting for space in the small remaining wooded area and local residential properties.
- Local drinking water wells are located closely to the proposed gas station.
Nuisance Issues
- Our families moved to the country to be in the country.
- Increased foot traffic and short cutting through residential yards is inevitable.
- There are approximately 15 working gas stations in a 5 mile radius of the same intersection. Including one across the street from the proposed site.
- The development of this property will destroy the relatively small amount of light pollution we currently enjoy.
Property Values
- Additionally, many homes will have their values dropped due to the additional access road cut off of Old Fair Ground Road for this gas station proposal.
- Properties around Milton's Pond are experiencing unusual flooding (during drought conditions) dropping property values and safety to pets and people.
Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our position on this development project.
