Stop The "Win a Wife" Radio Contest

The Rock FM, a radio station in New Zealand whose tagline is "Bands, Babes, Balls & Bull,"  just unveiled its "Win a Wife" contest. And yes, it's as offensive as it sounds. Despite international outrage, the show has promised to carry out this contest. The winner will get to select a woman from a database, have two video conferences with her and unlimited email exchange, which will be translated for free, as well as $2,000 spending money for the trip and throw in a free bouquet of roses and interpreters for the couple's first meeting.
The Rock FM has resisted persistent protests from people throughout New Zealand, so now it's time to put pressure on the show's advertisers.
We the undersigned oppose The Rock's recent "Win a Wife"/"Win A Trip To Beautiful Ukraine For 12 Nights And Meet Eastern European Hot Lady Who Maybe One Day You Marry" competition, which is deeply insulting and misogynist.

The Rock's renaming of the contest and apology for its previous title being misleading is nothing more than a radio stunt that does not change the nature of the contest itself, which objectifies women by being predicated on the premise that women are prizes to be won.

We urge The Rock to cancel its competition immediately and issue an apology. Further, we urge any supporters of The Rock FM and New Zealand's MediaWorks, or advertisers on their programming to withdraw their support.

Sincerely,
