Support Public Campaign Financing in New York State

Do you care about getting the corrupting influence of money out of politics?  Do you want a fair election process and a government that works for all people, not just the special interests?

Then please sign this petition in support of a robust public campaign financing system which limits the role of private money in our political system.

Public Campaign Financing allows candidates to run for office without being beholden to big money interests. Candidates collect small donations from people in their community and then receive public funds so they can run competitive campaigns. There are several different systems being used in different cities like NYC and states like Arizona and Maine. While each has its pluses and minuses, it seems that any form of Public Campaign Financing results in better candidates and cleaner, more representative government.

A coalition of community groups and other supporters around New York State has been working to help institute a Public Campaign Financing system that would apply to state-level elections. Speaker Silver introduced a bill in the Assembly and Governor Cuomo called for public funding of elections in his State of the State address on January 4, 2012. But since then his commitment has seemingly waned. We need to show all our elected officials in Albany that we demand clean and fair elections now!

Please call Governor Cuomo (518-474-8390), Senate Majority Leader Skelos (518-455-3171), Assembly Speaker Silver (212-312-1420) and your local state legislators and urge them to make it happen!
