Do Not Force Students to Stand During the Pledge!

A New Hampshire bill proposed by Representative Harry Accornero would force students to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance unless they are physically unable to do so.

The law currently allows students to not participate in the pledge, either by standing silent or saying seated, as long as they are respectful during the recitation of the pledge and of the students that are participating.

Making someone stand and recite the pledge is unconstitutional, especially since it says "one nation under God", because for many, this does not fit in with their beliefs. Other students have chosen not to stand for various reasons, and this should be respected.

Please tell Representative Harry Accornero to remove his bill and not make students stand for the pledge!

Dear Representative Harry Accornero,

Please remove your bill that would force students to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance. This is unconstitutional. Students choose not to stand during the pledge for a plethora of reasons -- many do not believe in the phrase "one nation under God", for example, and this should be respected.

Students already are expected to be respectful during the recitation of the pledge and of those students who have chosen to recite it.
