Repeal Discriminatory Age Pension Partner payment law.
Please sign the petition to end the discriminatory Age Pension partner payment law. This law, enacted by the Howard government, needs to be repealed because it has the effect of placing some Age Pensioners in a hardship situation. Should a single Age pensioner, partner with someone who is not eligible for Centrelink payments this ridiculous law allows the payments to Age Pensioners to be reduced by 22% below the single rate of pension, as well it has the effect of also reducing fringe payments i.e. rent assistance and pension supplement. In some instances these payments can be eliminated. Please give this petition serious consideration and help build a fairer more just society.

We the undersigned request that you repeal the unfair and discriminatory Age Pension partnered payment rates law. This law, enacted by the Howard government, needs to be repealed because it has the effect of placing some Age Pensioners in a hardship situation in certain circumstances, such as when a single pensioner partners with someone not eligible for Centrelink payments. According to this unfair law, Centrelink reduces the payment by 22% below the single rate of pension and as well in most cases fringe payments i.e. rent assistance and pension supplement payments, are also reduced and or eliminated. Please repeal and revise this law.
