The U.S. Just Dropped Out of the United Nations Human Rights Council

U.S. Ambassador to the the UN Nikki Haley announced that the United States is withdrawing from the United Nations Human Rights Council - a move that no other country has pulled before.

Haley and the Trump administration are upset at the council focusing so much attention at Israel (a longtime US ally) for its violence against Palestinians, calling the body "politically biased."

It's a strange time to pull this maneuver considering the U.S. is facing its own accusations of human rights abuses (what are we doing separating migrant children from their parents and holding them in cages, America?!) While Haley has a point that the council could do more to hold accountable some other countries like Russia, China, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and the Congo, she should be a part of making that change by remaining a member.

If a power player like the United States exist the council, it delegitimatizes its influence. Sign now to urge Haley to remain a member of this council and keep human rights a top issue for the United States.
