This online petition is to supplement a paper petition that is already signed by 80% of the local neighborhood on Tyler, Temperance and Mill Streets. We have over 100 signatures on the paper petition.
We as a group fully support the rebuild of the United Church and a new retirement home but the church and the developer should lower the building height and scale to suit the historic community it is surrounded by.
We, the residents of the historic Aurora Village, are concerned about the proposed 9-STORY 159 UNIT DEVELOPMENT at Yonge, Tyler and Temperance. We are all saddened by the fire that destroyed the original church and are pleased at the prospect of the church being rebuilt. However, we collectively wish to express the following concerns:
1. The proposed building is 9 stories tall and fills the entire lot from property line to property line. It is much too large in scale and would not be in keeping with a neighborhood of period homes that are predominantly one and two stories. This building should not exceed the current highest buildings in Aurora which are both six stories high and should not receive an exemption to build higher than the current Aurora development codes allow.
2. The proposed development of a retirement home that houses 168 residents is much too large for the lot size and should be adjusted to allow the developer to fit the architectural program with in current Aurora Development codes.
3. This area is a high traffic area currently. With the addition of left turn restrictions at Yonge and Wellington, which would divert Yonge Street traffic onto our side streets, and a proposal for 68 townhomes on Tyler Street at Mill, this area will have a significant increase in traffic, even without this retirement residence development at Yonge and Tyler. An additional building of this size will significantly increase traffic.
