Iraq: Stop "Emo Killings"!

People who identify as "emo" are being killed in Iraq, mainly because the subculture is perceived as being gay. 58 Iraqis have been killed in just the last six weeks, many of which have had their heads smashed in with cement blocks. 750 people have been killed for this since 2006, but there has been a wave of killings recently.

"Emo" is used to describe people who wear black and listen to alternative music.

Militias in Iraq have called these deaths "honor killings" because being gay is against Islam in Iraq. Because of this, the murderers generally go free, and the police do not provide protection for these people.

Everyone deserves the freedom of expression and the freedom to be who they are. No one should be killed because of their sexual orientation, the music they listen to, or how they dress. These people have done nothing wrong.

Please tell the Iraq government to stop these killings, including punishing the perpetuators and providing protection for all of their citizens.

Please stop the "emo" killings that have been going on in Iraq. People have been killed for being a part of an emo subculture that is widely perceived to be gay. As a result, 58 Iraqis have been killed in just the last six weeks.

This has to stop. Innocent people are being killed because of their style, the music they listen to, and their sexual orientation. It is the duty of the Iraq government to protect their citizens and to get justice for those that have died by prosecuting the murderers.
