Whereas, on November 23rd, 2015, John Brunner shared a social media post from the extreme right wing website WND.com headlined "Poll: Most U.S. Muslims would trade Constitution for Shariah" and then posted in a conversation, "I encourage the readers of this posting to watch the video from the link";
Whereas, in 2015, John Brunner shared a social media post from the extreme right wing website viral247news.com headlined "Florida Declares BAN ON SHARIA LAW! Why Did All Democrats Vote No?" and then himself wrote, "This goes to show how out of touch and disgusting the views of democrats are";
Whereas, on October 31st, 2015, John Brunner shared a social media post from the right wing news source washingtontimes.com headlined "Common Core ties to Libya, Qatar, Saudi Arabia";
Whereas, in a February 25th, 2016 social media conversation, John Brunner stated, "people with different ideologies have different ideas about how to go govern. Whether you'd like to admit it or not we are all influenced by our faith and belief and these influence our decisions";
Whereas, the "Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida" states, "The educator values the worth and dignity of every person";
Whereas, the "Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida" states that the educator
"Shall not harass or discriminate against any student on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, national or ethnic origin, political beliefs, marital status, handicapping condition, sexual orientation," and
"Shall take reasonable precautions to distinguish between personal views and those of any educational institution or organization with which the individual is affiliated";
We, the undersigned, lack confidence in John Brunner's ability to serve as principal of the Collier County Public Schools (CCPS) charter school Naples Classical Academy. John Brunner's history of sharing Islamophobic propaganda from unreliable and ideologically biased sources, as well as his assertion that one's beliefs "influence our decisions," demonstrate his discriminatory tendencies and an admission that his beliefs will influence his professional judgements.
We hereby call upon the School Board of Collier County, Hillsdale College, and the Optima Foundation to remove John Brunner as principal of Naples Classical Academy.
