Investigation into shooting of Andrew Hanlon

On June 30, 2008, 20 year old Andrew Hanlon, an Irishman living in Oregon, was shot and killed by police. There was no discernible provocation for this shooting. His family is understandably concerned and is looking to find out why he was shot. A witness to the shooting relayed that Andrew had tripped and was in the process of running away from police when the Officer Tony Gonzalez opened fire and shot him six times.

Although Andrew was diagnosed with mental illness, he was not endangering any community member at the time of his shooting and did not have a history of violence.

We'd like the Oregon police department to know that this type of shooting is inhumane and in need of investigation.

His family back in Ireland were in the process of getting him treatment. They may be joining with other families whose mentally ill loved ones were shot dead by police.
