Real Girls for Real Images; Demand for Disclaimers on Digitally Altered Images

Recent studies show that the average american teenager consumes 10 hours and 45 minutes of media per day. Whether it be T.V, music, movies, magazines, or the internet, they are bombarded with altered representations of women. When teen girls see these extremely beautiful, digitally altered models, they think that they should look like that. This creates unachievable beauty standards that can lead to lowered confidence, eating disorders, body shaming, and even self-harm. People need to know that these images are digitally altered so they know this isn’t real. Hence, all digitally altered images should be required to contain a disclaimer saying that the image has been edited to separate fiction from reality.
