Student Wellness and Grade Support

The General Microbiology class of Fall 2023 at the University of California Merced requires weekly quizzes (x2) and discussion posts (3 responses). The class also asks students to watch lectures before the allotted lecture times, and in-person lecture attendance is mandatory; this nearly doubles the lecture time that we registered for. There is little leniency towards our grades, especially with respect to assignments. Students have lives outside of class. We also have other classes; as most of us are upperclassmen, our other classes are just as demanding, if not more. This petition serves to request that at least 3 of the lowest quiz/discussion scores are dropped, to allow for mistakes or life events that may negatively affect our grades.
