End Umeme Ltd non-compliance with laws of Uganda

Umeme Ltd forced all of us to convert our electricity meters to Yaka.

Umeme does not issue Tax Invoices to consumers who purchase Yaka electricity tokens. This results in 18% loss of value purchased in VAT you can not claim, and allows Umeme to play with declaration of VAT to Uganda Revenue Authority.

Obtaining a Tax Invoice for purchase from a VAT registered entity is our right and issuing a Tax Invoice is a legal requirement. As Ugandans, we ought to act when we see non-compliance with our laws. It is worse when we allow giants like Umeme to act with impunity.We all depend on Umeme and they are using the fact to enrich themselves at the expense of every Ugandan, whether connected to the national electricity grid or not.

Let Uganda Revenue Authority enforce Umeme's tax compliance or recommend that Umeme's contract to provide services in Uganda be cancelled for non-compliance with tax laws of Uganda.
