Demand an End to School Uniforms- Volusia County

The battle of school uniforms is out of hand. Our children have enough responsibilities and concerns than need be right now and the Volusia County School Board should be focusing more on the matters at hand right rather than whether or not the kids are wearing uniforms! Why don’t we let the teachers teach instead of asking John to “lift up his sweatshirt” to prove he’s wearing a polo or deciding if Jessica is wearing athletic leggings for her weightlifting class or if they’re simply leggings. These are literally the discussions that are going on. Do you have a polo on? Do you have a fever? Where is your mask? Oh, you better make sure you have your school ID! The school uniform policy is more of a distraction from all angles than it is conducive to learning. Not only do some students have issues with finding “uniforms that fit correctly” but it seems some schools are enforcing it whereas many schools are not. Some students continually get harassed whereas others do not get one word mentioned about it. Let the teachers and administrators focus on the important issues at hand: LEARNING, kids bringing drugs to school and selling them (this is happening), kids Vaping, kids stealing, kids fighting, kids having sexual contact at school, the list goes on and on! School uniforms have yet to stop bullying! Our children need to have some freedoms while they can and wearing what makes them feel confident and comfortable should be one of them. They already have self confidence and self esteem issues, why does the school board insist on forcing them to wear something that just isn’t necessary?! They have a much larger battle to be focusing on at the moment, let our children wear what they want as long as it is not inappropriate!
