Stop the abuse of racing dogs.
- av: Mark Kiernan

Greyhound racing is an unacceptable 'sport' in Ireland, where beautiful animals are forced to compete against each other. When some fail or end their careers they are treated in the most horrible ways, also resulting in death.
This is a petition to the Irish Government Minister to provide more resources against the abuse of these animals, such as stronger punishment through the law and more staff to carry out checks at race courses.
Dear Mr. Cullen,
We the undersigned would plead with you to take serious action against the abuse of greyhounds used for racing. It was reported in the Irish Times of 1st August 2008 that a number of dead greyhounds were found terribly mutilated in a pool of water. The horrible action taken against these animals was in no doubt related to racing careers of these dogs. It is commonly known that many of these dogs are abused due to underperformance or injuries sustained while racing.
We understand that to ban this 'sport', would be an over-reach of your office, but we would plead with you to provide services who carry out through checks of dogs at the race courses, or registered owners. That the staff to carry out these checks have the sufficient funding, and that culprits are severely punished for their abusive acts.
I thank you kindly for taking the time to consider this and hope to hear of action being taken against such abusers.
