There is a common misconception that biological sex is tied to and even determines our gender identity. There are also misconceptions about how gender and sexual orientation are linked. This is known to be false, but the idea is still perpetuated and largely subscribed to by many members of the population. People deserve to have accurate information, but there is an obvious issue in how this information is spread and framed as an obsession with political correctness. Because of this misinformation, the larger issue of gender inequality is framed as an issue which only affects a few marginalized groups. Gender categorization is unsustainable because of the systematic inequality it creates. The rigid expectations are limiting and harmful to everyone, including cis men and women and anyone who doesn't identify with their "assigned" gender. Gender categorization grants certain people their basic human rights, while refusing the rights of others. In some states, trans people are not able to use the restroom that reflects their gender identity. People who are able to have children are still fighting for their right to be able to choose abortion. We are dehumanizing large groups of people by taking away their basic human rights.
