Don't let Trump punish American kids based on who their parents are!

In the United States, we can all pretty much agree on one things: our children are our future, and they ought to be given every opportunity to learn and grow and foster their talents. That's why huge majorities of the American people support early-education programs like Head Start, nutritional assistance like food stamps, and vital, life-saving services like the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

But apparently, some American kids don't count the same as others. Donald Trump and his administration want to start discriminating between U.S. citizens -- based on who their parents are. Under Trump's new proposal, if U.S.-born children with immigrant parents (including documented immigrants) partake in these special childhood programs, then their parents could be denied a green card or new visa. There is only one outcome of this: their families would be ripped apart.

This means parents of American children would have to make a choice: keep their kids out of Head Start, CHIP, and other services, or potentially be denied permanent residence.

We should all recognize this for what it is: a HUGE escalation of the anti-child, anti-family, anti-immigrant rhetoric that Trump and his cronies have been spouting for the past year. We are on the brink of witnessing a new system that would destroy American kids' childhoods and futures, just because of their parents' immigration status. This is a disgusting and terrifying overreach of power, and we must all stand strongly against it.
