Support the My Body, My Data Act!

Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA) announced the My Body, My Data Act, which aims to create a national standard regarding access to such information by apps and websites as well as prevent the misuse or disclosure of this data. It would curb the collection of personal reproductive health data that could be used to target or arrest people if abortions are criminalized, and would be enforced by the Federal Trade Commission.

This bill is vital to protect women from harassment and persecution. It would be all to easy to mistake an innocent trip as an attempt to get an abortion, leading to completely unnecessary prosecution, incarceration and suffering.

The 4th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is supposed to uphold the privacy and security of individual persons against subjective invasions by the government and its officials. We should be protected from unwanted non-governmental surveillance as well, especially if it could be used for nefarious purposes.

Please support the My Body, My Data Act.
