Save Weeksville Willow

Help us Save Weeping Willow in Imani Garden that is at the very center of Weeksville, NYC's oldest independent African American community. A tax lien for a paltry $3,800 was sold by the City to private investors in 2001 that led to this property being foreclosed on. Now the current owner wants $600,000 or more for the lot. The fact that the DOF elected to sell this lien and not simply donate or sell the land to New York Restoration Project which owns the lots on either side of 89 Schenectady is a mistake that now is going to cost a huge amount of money to fix.

We, the gardeners of Imani Garden, would very much like PA James to investigate how this lien sale came about and what recourse the City might have to rectify it.

As has been pointed out by many, Tish James has always been a strong advocate for the Crown Heights community. She may now be our last, best hope of saving our beloved garden.
