Demand Safer Online Marketplaces: Protect Our Kids from Scams, Scammers, and Inappropriate Content

The Problem: Meeting Strangers is a Gamble
Online marketplaces are failing our kids. Right now, a child arranging to buy or sell something is often meeting a total stranger with no background check and no safety net. There's no way to know if they're meeting a trusted adult or someone dangerous. This isn't just a matter of convenience; it's a critical safety flaw that puts our children's well-being on the line.

The scam culture is just as bad. A kid looking for a deal can easily get swindled with fake listings, counterfeit goods, or a no-show seller. The lack of accountability means they lose their money and their trust, with no one to turn to for help. This is a fundamental human rights failure.

The Solution: Building Trust and Safety by Default
We're not just asking for better security; we're demanding that these companies take responsibility for their platforms. We want them to build trust right into the system.

    Here's what we want:

ID Verification for In-Person Meetups. Anyone using the platform for a face-to-face transaction should have their ID verified. This simple step would create a layer of accountability and make everyone safer.

Stronger Buyer and Seller Protections. We need a better system to protect buyers from fraud. This means clear ratings, a reliable way to report scams, and an easy dispute process for bad deals.

Official "Safe Zones" for Transactions. Platforms should partner with local police and businesses to create designated safe zones for all in-person transactions. It's a simple idea that would make a huge difference in protecting our kids.
