amend the existing pet laws to include the potbellied pig as a pet or companion animal.
Many municipalities when first incorporated long before potbelly pigs even were introduced to this country wrote into their zoning codes the provision that livestock, farm animals, swine or pigs would not be permitted within the city limits.
THIS IS THE TIME to check and help clarify the outmoded notions of a pig as a pet. Clear definitions of what a companion pet pig actually is and more importantly what it is not.
Most cities in this country simply accept potbelly pigs as the companion and common household pets that they are.However not ours. I need your help changeing my city council's mind. potbelly pigs were Imported in 1986 as exotic house pet pigs, bred and sold as a household pet only, fed a specially formulated diet to promote a long and vigorous life.
