Save Our Braves
Reedsport, Oregon has long been the "Land of the Free and the Home of the Braves!" This version of the National Anthem has always has held special meaning for the people of Reedsport. It is with great pride and respect for our mascot, the Brave, that this community has long demonstrated a comittment to sportsmanship and team spirit that is truly unparalled. Our mascot is an honored symbol of strength and dedication to home, family, and community. We feel that it would be a great injustice to all members of this community (which includes proud Native Americans!) to remove this symbol from our lives.
The financial and psychological costs of removing and replacing our beloved symbol of pride would be devastating. Reedsport High School has already undergone a transition to Reedsport Community Charter School. Another significant change would not only cost hundreds of thousands of dollars we don't have, but would further erode the spirit of this already economically beleaguered community. Please consider the true cost of removing this community's symbol of pride and strength. Please let us continue to uphold this symbol with the honor and respect that it deserves.
