Help for the homeless, ex forces or those forced into it through no fault of their own

Although I understand and fully support the asylum of refugees fleeing war or migrants wanting a better and fairer life for themselves or their loved ones.
I believe that our laws,government and society has lost sight of the ethos of looking after those we see everyday in our streets.
The old saying of 'look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves' seems apt here.
It is a human right that everyone is entitled to food,shelter and warmth. To feel safe and valued in society.
