Real No Tax On Overtime
We are tired of fake relief? The current deduction isn’t "no tax" — it’s capped, phased out, and misleading. We demand true tax-free OT and daily overtime after 8 hours worked. Petition to the White House
We, the undersigned citizens of the United States who are the literal backbone of America, respectfully petition the White House to take immediate action to implement genuine and fair reforms to federal labor and tax policy concerning overtime compensation.
Background: Recent legislation has been promoted under the banner of "No Tax on Overtime," yet in practice, it offers only a capped tax deduction on a portion of overtime wages. While we recognize the intent to support working Americans, this measure falls short of the promise made to the public. True "No Tax on Overtime" would mean that all overtime compensation is exempt from federal income tax, without arbitrary caps or income phase-outs.
Furthermore, we call for an update to outdated overtime eligibility rules. Currently, American workers qualify for overtime pay only after working more than 40 hours in a week. This weekly threshold does not account for the reality of daily labor patterns, particularly for those working long shifts in critical industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, petroleum industry, farming, trucking industry and public safety.
Our Requests:
True Tax Relief on Overtime: Enact legislation that fully exempts all overtime wages (as defined under the Fair Labor Standards Act) from federal income tax, with no cap and no income-based phase-out.
Daily Overtime Eligibility: Amend the Fair Labor Standards Act to require that overtime pay be triggered after 8 hours worked in a single day, in addition to the current 40-hour weekly standard. This policy is already adopted in several states and should be extended to protect all American workers.
Why This Matters: Hard Working Americans who put in extra hours to support their families and communities should be rewarded, not penalized. The promise of "No Tax on Overtime" should be honored in full, and overtime protections should reflect the modern demands of labor, not policies frozen in a past era.
We urge the Administration to take the lead in delivering real tax relief and fair overtime standards for every American worker.
