Demand an End to Outragous Rent Cost!

In the year 1980 the average rental cost for an unfurnished apartment was approx. $308.00 per month. In 1990 it was $600.00 per month. In the year 2000 the average unfurnished apartment cost rose to $841.00 per month. And, in 2012 it rose to $1090.00 per month. Lastly in 2016 for an average unfurnished apartment, the cost of rent was an astonishing $1478.00 per month. Now, here we are about to move into the year 2018, and the cost has rose to $2000.00 per month for rent. These numbers should speak for them selves. Let me bring up the fact, that you need to make 3x the amount of rent to even be considered to rent certain houses or apartments. 3x 2000= $6000.00 a month you need to bring home in order to rent that house. But for the sake of argument let's just say the you are house hunting, and you find a small one bedroom apartment on the ground floor, in a semi-decent area. They are asking $1000.00 per month for this apartment. You are on disability, and you are over 65 years old. You go in and get the application for the apartment from the manager, the manager looks you over and asks you how much income you have coming in per month. You tell the manager that you have a fixed income of $1200.00 per month from social security. The manager tells you that you would not qualify for the apartment so you should probably look else where. You ask the manager why you would not qualify, she tells you because in order to rent from them, your income per month would have to be 3x the amount of rent, which would be $3000.00 per month, you would need to bring home. The point of this story was to show how ridiculous it is for people to find some place decent to live. Now, this old lady had never been late on her rent not one time, she lived in the same place for almost twenty years, but last year her husband past away and she could not bare to live in that house any longer. Her credit was A+ credit and she had never had a bill in collections. But, she could not get into a decent apartment in a decent area because the rent was outrageous and meant for rich people. This old lady had to go and get an apartment in a area that is full of home invasions and murder because the government only gave her $1200.00 per month for disability, which she worked for her whole life. How is this fair.
It's not! And we demand that the landlords be made to lower the rent payments so that everyone has a fair chance to rent the property. why should only the rich be able to live in nice area's. why should the rich be the only people who are able to be safe.

I think that the government should make the landlord get their house or apartments appraised and depending on the appraisal's net worth of the property, that would be the basis for how much the landlord is able to charge for rent. If the appraiser say's that the house or apartment is only worth $ 400,000.00, then they should only be able to charge $400-500 a month rent. the higher the worth the more rent they can charge. If the person makes 3x the amount of rent, then they can double the cost of rent if they so choose to. why is this not fair. I think the system would work out great and people who were not so well off could be able to live in safe area's as well as the more well off people. The amount of rent that landlords charge is robbery, and I feel that the government should cap the rise of rent per month. The poor people deserve a safe place to live as well as the rich. And by doing this system, a lot of homeless people could get off the streets and into a home of their own. This is what I think should happen.
