Kinder Joy is pushing gender stereotypes too far!

When I was little, I was obsessed with Kinder Joy eggs, of course, I wasn't allowed them very often but the idea of having chocolate AND a toy was extremely compelling to me.

Nowadays though, although I still find the chocolate inside delicious, I blatantly refuse to buy them. In lots of countries nowadays, like Singapore, for the past few years they have been marketing Kinder Joy eggs in 2 different ways:

There is the egg package with a pink top and the egg package with a blue top. The pink one is labeled as "for girls" and inside, you get a variety of different pink, purple and sparkly toys, usually shaped like mermaids or princesses or babies in strollers. Open up the blue one, and surprise surprise, there is cars and skateboards and monsters that are any color other than pink. These toys might seem harmless; lots of boys do like vehicles and things to build and lots of girls like princesses and mermaids. The thing is, these toys are more trouble than they are worth.

The one thing that I hate hearing from anyone is "that's for girls" or "that's for boys" There are little girls and boys all over the world who are ridiculed by their families and friends simply for being attracted to something that is directed at the opposite sex. These kinder eggs reinforce and push gender stereotypes, meaning that kids don't feel free to express themselves and are stuck in the boundaries their gender gives them.

If you believe that it is right to harm children's self-esteem and attitude towards the opposite sex then sure, keep on buying these kinder eggs. I think that we have to, for the sake of our children and the future generations, stop buying kinder joy eggs until Ferrero stops splitting them by gender and continues to put only gender neutral toys in the eggs. If Ferrero doesn't sell any more eggs because of the way they market them, they will have to change their marketing strategies and will stop this harmful behavior.

By signing this petition, you vow to never buy a Kinder Joy Egg again.
