Help working mums grow their businesses - improve child care!

The first report from the Canada-U.S. Council on Women in Business has found that woman entrepeneurs need improved childcare options in order to grow their businesses alongside taking care of their families.

The council's report revealed shock statistics that show how uneven the playing field remains for women in business. Only 7% of businesses in Canada with 100 - 500 employees are female-owned.

The council, which reported on the issue in both the USA and Canada, said: "In Canada, we heard the need for more affordable quality child care programs". Canada's child care costs are currently amongst the highest in the world. It currently invests around 0.25% of its annual GDP into supporting child care.

Don Giesbrecht, CEO of the Canadian Child Care Federation, says investment needs to be 1% of GDP annually to create an affordable child care system that will also feed back into the economy through its benefits to working families.

Please sign this petition to ask that the Canadian government commit to investing 1% of GDP in child care by 2022. If enough people sign, it will send a message to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that we want to invest in entrepeneur mothers, and in their children's futures.

The Canadian Government:

The first report from the Canada-U.S. Council on Women in Business revealed that only 7% of businesses with 100 - 500 employees are owned by women. This was one of several findings that illustrate that more needs to be done to help woman entrepeneurs, many of whom are working mothers.

The report said that improved child care access is key to helping those mothers who are also entrepeneurs. To do this, Canada's excessively expensive child care needs to be made affordable.

1% of Canada's annual GDP by 2020 is a sensible investment in the future of Canada's economy, woman entrepeneurs and their children.
