Do Not Punish Athletes for a Coach Mistake

As a new coach at Eldorado high school I missed a deadline by 20minutes for a District meet. Because of an error on the coaches part the swimmers, and entire team, are banned from competing at this meet.
I am hoping to make a quick change in favor of all athletes this season and next for all schools. Any and all consequences should be brought upon the coach themselves, which may be a fine from their paycheck or a resignation after the season has ended, but the athletes should never be punished for a mistake.
The petition is to overturn that athletes are disciplined for a coaches error and make the consequence fall on the coach themselves.
