Provide Better Bus Services for Commuters

Travel is difficult for non-drivers not living in a major city.

Red Rose Transit works fine for those wishing to take a leisurely trip to the grocery store or mall, but continues to cause problems for commuters relying on buses to get to work on time. People can be without their own transport for many reasons including disability or financial trouble, and a lack of reliable transport limits their opportunity for independence.

Already many employers discriminate unfairly against those without a valid drivers license or their own transportation, even for jobs that don't require frequent travel. An unreliable and infrequent bus service further impedes their chance of success in the workplace. Currently commuters can be forced to make the choice of risking being late due to a tight transfer, or get an earlier bus and wait for up to an hour every morning at Queen St. to ensure they make their transfer. (I have also been informed that users of the disability services can find themselves waiting 2+ hours for their pick-up.)

We want Red Rose Transit to make better efforts to avoid lateness, hold transfer buses at Queen St. or make alternative arrangements for transferring customers on occasions when their bus is going to be late, and increase services for commuters.
