Our justice system needs to afford Jeffery Reval an opportunity for clemency, a new trial or release him on parole after 28 years of imprisonment. Reval was a 19-year-old without a criminal record, and was not at the scene of the crime when he was convicted without supporting evidence. The victim could not identify Reval as the perpetrator. Reval was represented by a court appointed attorney that failed to adequately defend him against an obvious violation of his fourth amendment rights. A DNA test completed in 2011 excluded Mr. Reval from the scene. The sentencing structure employed by this court was archaic and represents cruel and unusual punishment.
