Help Lower the Cost of Cancer Care

In Canada, cancer costs the average patient nearly $33,000 in their lifetime.

A cancer diagnosis can turn someone's world upside down. Beyond the physical and emotional toll, many people face significant costs for medications, medical supplies, transportation, parking, lost income, and caregiving.

Today, people with cancer and their caregivers shoulder approximately 20% of Canada's total cancer costs—amounting to $7.5 billion every year. As Canada's population grows and ages, these costs are expected to rise.

No one should have to worry about how they'll pay for cancer care while navigating a cancer diagnosis.

That's why we're calling on governments across Canada to make cancer care more affordable and accessible.

We, the undersigned, call on all levels of government to:

  • Support caregivers by making the Canada Caregiver Credit and equivalent provincial tax credits, where appropriate, refundable so more people receive support for out-of-pocket costs.
  • Reduce costs and increase access to innovative cancer drugs by lowering drug prices and guaranteeing access to available treatments.
  • Lighten the load for patients and families by reducing additional costs associated with cancer care, including lab fees, transportation, prosthetics, oncofertility treatments, incontinence products, cooling caps, and more.
  • Urgently address healthcare workforce shortages through a pan-Canadian strategy so people with cancer can access care closer to home and reduce travel costs
  • Lower out-of-pocket costs and other barriers to early detection by expanding access to cancer screening, including convenient at-home testing options where appropriate.

Sign the petition and help make cancer care more affordable for everyone in Canada.
