David Cameron: Scrap the bedroom tax now

Danielle Heard is twenty-one years old. For fourteen of those years, she's fought cancer -- a disease that has left her disabled.

Despite everything she's been through, she's now got another fight on her hands: avoiding homelessness because of the bedroom tax.

Because of this government's ill thought-through and cruel policy, Danielle's parents must now pay an extra £80 a month in rent. Already stretched by the cost of hundreds of hospital trips needed to care for their daughter, it's a sum they simply cannot afford. They fear they're going to lose their home.

Right now, a staggering 50,000 people across Britain like Danielle and her family face losing their home because of the bedroom tax. We're calling on David Cameron to do the right thing and scrap this cruel, unfair law immediately.

If Labour wins the next election, Ed Miliband will repeal the bedroom tax -- but Britain can't afford to wait till 2015. Let's send the prime minister a message that this policy must be scrapped: sign our petition now.
Dear David Cameron,

The story of disabled cancer sufferer Danielle Heard should show you just why the bedroom tax is deeply unfair and must be repealed.

Because of your tax, Danielle’s family now has to pay an extra £80 in rent a month -- on top of her hospital trips and care -- and it’s a sum they can barely afford.

I struggle to understand how you can justify cutting taxes for millionaires while hitting some of the most vulnerable people in our society with the bedroom tax.

Ed Miliband has said he’ll repeal the bedroom tax if Labour win the next election. But we can’t afford another 18 months of this unfair situation: right now, a staggering 50,000 people across Britain face losing their home because they can’t afford to pay it.

I’m asking you to stand up and do the right thing. Scrap the bedroom tax now, and start building an economy that works for the many -- not just a privileged few.

Yours sincerely,
